but between my own experiences growing up, and my ongoing efforts to be the best father i can be, i’ve learned acouple ofthings about what our children need most from their parents.

first and foremost, they need our time. and more important than the quantity of hours we spend with them is the quality of those hours. maybe it’s just asking about their day, or taking a walk together, but the **allest moments can have the biggest impact.

they also need structure, including learning the values of self-discipline and responsibility. malia and sasha may live in the white house these days, but michelle and i still make sure they finish their schoolwork, do their chores, and walk the dog.

and above all, children need our unconditional love – whether they succeed or make mistakes; when life is easy and when life is tough.

and life is tough for a lot of americans today. more and more kids grow up without a father figure. others miss a father who’s away serving his country in uniform.

and even for those dads who are present in their children’s lives, the recession has taken a harsh toll. if you’re out of a job or struggling to pay the bills, doing whatever it takes to keep the kids healthy, happy and safe can understandably take precedence overeverything else.

that’s why my administration has offered men who want to be good fathers a little extra support. we’ve boosted ***munity and faith-based groups focused on fatherhood, partnered with businesses to offer opportunities for fathers to spend time with their kids at the bowling alley or ballpark, and worked with military chaplains to help deployed dads connect with their children.

we’re doing this because we all have a stake in f***ing stronger bonds between fathers and their children. and you can find out more about some of what we’re doing at

but we also know that every father has a personal responsibility to do right by our kids as well. all of us can encourage our children to turn off the video games and pick up a book. all of us can pack a healthy lunch for our son, or go outside and play ball with our daughter.

and all of us can teach our children the difference between right and wrong, and show them through our own example the value in treating one another as we wish to be treated.

our kids are pretty **art. they understand that life won’t always be perfect, that sometimes, the road gets rough, that even great parents don’t get everything right.

but more than anything, they just want us to be a part of their lives.

so recently, i took on a second job: assistant coach for sasha’s basketball team. on sundays, we’d get the team together to practice, and a couple of times, i’d help coach the games.

and it wasgreat fun – even if sasha rolled her eyes occasionally when her dad voiced his displeasure with the refs.

but i was so proud watching her run up and down the court, seeing her learn and improve and gain confidence. and i was hopeful that in the years to ***e, she’d look back on experiences like these as the ones that helped define her as a person – and as a parent herself.

in the end, that’s what being a parent is all about – those precious moments with our children that fill us with pride and excitement for their future; the chances we have to set an example or offer a piece of advice; the opportunities to just be there and show them that we love them.

that’s something worth remembering this father’s day, and every day.

today, i speak from this podium a final time as your president. as i depart, i want to thank all of you - students, faculty, alumni and staff - with whom i have been privileged to work over these past years. some of us have had our disagreements, but i know that which unites us transcends that which divides us.

some things look different to me than they did five years ago. the world that today’s harvard’s graduates are entering is a profoundly different one than the world administrators entered.

it is a world where opportunities have never been greater for those who know how to teach children to read, or those who know how to distribute financial risk; never greater for those who understand the cell and the pixel; never greater for those who can master, and navigate between, legal codes, faith traditions, ***puter platforms, political viewpoints.

it is also a world where some are left further and further behind - those who are not educated, those trapped in poverty and violence, those for whom equal opportunity is just a hollow phrase.

scientific and technological advances are enabling us to ***prehend the furthest reaches of the co**os, the most basic constituents of matter, and the miracle of life.

at the same time, today, the actions, and inaction, of human beings imperil not only life on the pla***, but the very life of the pla***.

globalization is ****** the world **aller, faster and richer. still, 9/11, avian flu, and iran remind us that a **aller, faster world is not necessarily a safer world.

our world is bursting with knowledge - but desperately in need of wisdom. now, when sound bites are getting shorter, when instant messages crowd out essays, and when individual lives grow more frenzied, college graduates capable of deep reflection are what our world needs.

for all these reasons i believed - and i believe even more strongly today - in the unique and irreplaceable mission of universities.

universities are where the wisdom we cannot afford to lose is preserved from generation to generation. among all human institutions, universities can look beyond present norms to future possibilities, can look through current considerations to emergent opportunities.

and among universities, harvard stands out. with its great tradition, its iconic reputation, its remarkable ***work of 300,000 alumni, harvard has never had as much potential as it does now.

and yet, great and proud institutions, like great and proud nations at their peak, must surmount a very real risk: that the very strength of their traditions will lead to caution, to an inward focus on prerogative and to a ***placency that lets the world pass them by.

and so i say to you that our university today is at an inflection point in its history. at such a moment, there is temptation to elevate ***fort and consensus over progress and clear direction, but this would be a mistake. the university’s matchless resources - human, physical, financial - demand that we seize this moment with vision and boldness.

to do otherwise would be a lost opportunity. we can spur great deeds that history will mark decades and even centuries from now. if harvard can find the courage to change itself, it can change the world.

  graduates and my fellow students,

you all are leaving your alma mater now. i have no gift to present you all except a piece of advice.

what i would like to advise is that "don’t give up your study." most of the courses you have taken are partly for your certificate. you had no choice but to take them.

from now on, you may study on your own. i would advise you to work hard at some special field when you are still young and vigorous. your youth will be gone that will never ***e back to you again.

when you are old, and when your energy are getting poorer, you will not be able to as you wish to. even though you have to study in order to make a living, studies will never live up to you. ****** a living without studying, you will be shifted out in three or five years.

at this time when you hope to make it up, you will say it is too late. perhaps you will say, "after graduation and going into the society, we will meet with an urgent problem, that is, to make a living. for this we have no time to study.

even though we hope to study, we have no library nor labs, how can we study further?"

大学英语演讲稿 man’s life is a process of growing up

man’s life is a process of growing up, actually i’m standing here is a growth. if a person’s life must constituted (组成)by various choices, then i grow up along with these choices. once i hope i can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know i ***e here, now i wonder what the future holds for (= what will happen to) me.

when i ***e to this school, i told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. following i will learn to be***e a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.

once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never f***et which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” i will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process i will ***bine learning with doing.

if i can achieve this “future”, i think that i really grow up. and i deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in the future.

how to say future? maybe it’s a nice wish. lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

  friendship

every one of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good friends. my friends will listen to me when i want to speak, will wipe my eyes when i cry, will take care of me when i am sick, and my friends will go together with me side by side through this journey of life.

as students, we could share more time with our friends. the friendship in our young hearts is pure, fresh and ******. i often feel very lucky to have a lot of good friends.

especially when i had justin as one of my best friends. justin was my english teacher from the usa. i met him in 1996 when i was a student who could only speak very little english.

justin was a vivid young man with a bright **ile on his face, and he always had his special way to make the class active and attractive. he taught us english by telling stories, playing games, singing songs, and even dancing. i could still remember very clearly that one afternoon when we fin-ished our class, we went to some other classes to sing songs for them, just like what people do in the states on christmas eve.

it was so interesting and unf***ettable. justin was an excellent teacher, because he taught us not only how to study english well, but also the way to find out the beauty of the world and the way to be angels to others' lives. i know there was friendship and pure love in our hearts.

facing this valuable emotion neither nationality nor age was important, the real importance lay in faith, under-standing, and care. justin is the best friend i have ever had, and i know i will cherish those days of staying together with him as the best part of my memory.

friendship is a kind of treasure in our lives. it is actua

lly like a bottle of wine, the longer it is kept, the sweeter it will be. it is also like a cup of tea. when we are thirsty, it will be our best choice, but when we have enough time to enjoy ourselves, it is also the most fragrant drink.

however, in this fast-developing modern society, the reality is not that. more and more people f***et to enjoy the beauty of life and -the beauty of friendship. they work hard in order to gain a higher position, in the society and to earn more money for their work.

of course, we don't deny that it is important to find a bet-ter place in our lives, but we wish more and more people could pay a little more attention to themselves and their friends. all of us have to spare some time for personal lives. we have to find the chance to express our emotion and love.

when staying with our friends, we can release ourselves ***pletely. we can do whatever we want, we can laugh together, talk together, and even cry to-gether. i should say that being together with our best friends is the most wonderful moment of our lives.

as we know, we would feel lonely if we didn't even have a friend. but it doesn't mean we could depend on our friends all the time. there is a famous motto saying that “a friend is like a quilt with cotton wadding, but the real thing that keeps you warm is your own temperature.

” it is really true. we have to work hard together with our friends, encourage each other and help each other. when we receive love and friendship, we should repay as much as we can.

finally, let's pray together now that one day, all of us could find the person we want to find, and could enjoy a real beautiful friendship in our lives. let's pray the flower of friendship be-tween our friends and us would always bloom brightly in our heartsi have a dream

every one has his own dream.when i was a little kid ,my dream was even to have a candy shop of my own .but now ,when i am 16 years old ,standing here ,my dreams have already changed a lot.

i have got quite different experience from other girls.while they were playing toys at home, while they were dreaming to be the princesses in the story .i was running in the hard rain, jumping in the heavy snow, pitching in the strong wind.

nothing could stop me ,because of a wonderful call from my heart -- to be an athlete.yeah ,of course ,i'm an athlete,i'm so proud of that all the timewhen i was 10 years old ,i became a shot-put athlete.the training was really hard ,i couldn't bear the heavy shot in my hands .

but i always believe that "god only help those who help themselves".during those hard days,i find i was growing more quickly than others of the same age.to be an athlete is my most correct choice.

but,i quit my team after entering high school because of a silly excuse.i really didn't want to stop my sports career anywaytoday i say to you my friends that even though i must face the difficulties of yesterday ,today and tomorrow

ow .i still have a dream .it is a dream deeply rooted in my souli have a dream that one day ,i can run, jump and pitch just like i used to bei have a dream that one day , i can go back to my dream sports and join the national teami have a dream that one day ,i can stand on the highest place at the olympic games.

with all the cameras pointing at me.i will tell everyone that i'm so proud to be a chinese athletethis is my hope .this is the faith that i continue my steps withwith this faith ,i will live though the strong wind and heavy rain ,never give upso let victory ring from my heart, from all of you.

when we allow victory to ring .i must be the onein my imagination,i'm a bird ,a magical bird.i carry my dreams all with me by my big wings.

i fly though the mountains ,though the forests ,over the sea,to the sun ,the warmest place in the aerospaceevery night ,i have a dream ,i see a girl ---**iling

love english--英语演讲稿 as everyone knows, english is very important today.it has been used everywhere in the world.it has be***e the most ***mon language on inter*** and for international trade.

how to say future? maybe it’s a nice wish. lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

clinton, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, the peaceful

transfer of authority is rare in history, yet ***mon in our country. with

a ****** oath, we affirm old traditions and make new beginnings.

as i begin, i thank president clinton for his service to our n

  ation.

and i thank vice president gore for a contest conducted with spirit and

  ended with grace.

i am honored and humbled to stand here, where so many of america's leaders

have ***e before me, and so many will follow.

we have a place, all of us, in a long story -- a story we continue, but

whose end we will not see. it is the story of a new world that became a

friend and liberator of the old, a story of a slave-holding society that

became a servant of freedom, the story of a power that went into the world

to protect but not possess, to defend but not to conquer.

it is the american story -- a story of flawed and fallible people, united

across the generations by grand and enduring ideals.

the grandest of these ideals is an unfolding american promise that

  everyone be

longs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was

  ever

  born.

americans are called to enact this promise in our lives and in our laws.

  and t

hough our nation has sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must

  follow n

  o other course.

through much of the last century, america's faith in freedom and democracy

wasa rock in a raging sea. now it is a seed upon the wind, taking root in

  many nations.

our democratic faith is more than the creed of our country, it is the

  inborn h

ope of our humanity, an ideal we carry but do not own, a trust we bear and

pass along. and even after nearly 225 years, we have a long way yet to

  travel.

while many of our citizens prosper, others doubt the promise, even the

justice, of our own country. the ambitions of some americans are limited

by failing schools and hidden prejudice and the circumstances of their

birth. and sometimes our differences run so deep, it seems we share a

  continent, but not a country.

we do not accept this, and we will not allow it. our unity, our union, is

the serious work of leaders and citizens in every generation. and this is

my solemn pledge: i will work to build a single nation of justice and

  opportunity.

i know this is in our reach because we are guided by a power larger than

ourselves who creates us equal in his image.

and we are confident in principles that unite and lead us onward.

america has never been united by blood or birth or soil. we are bound by

ideals that move us beyond our backgrounds, lift us above our interests

and teach us what it means to be citizens. every child must be taught

  these principles. e

very citizen must uphold them. and every immigrant, by embracing these

ideals, makes our country more, not less, american.

today, we affirm a new ***mitment to live out our nation's promise through

  civility, courage, ***passion and character.

america, at its best, matches a ***mitment to principle with a concern for

civility. a civil society demands from each of us good will and respect,

  fair dealing and f***iveness.

some seem to believe that our politics can afford

  o be petty because, in

a time of peace, the stakes of our debates appear **all.

but the stakes for america are never **all. if our country does not lead

the cause of freedom, it will not be led. if we do not turn the hearts of

children toward knowledge and character, we will lose their gifts and

undermine their ideali**. if we permit our economy to drift and decline,

  the vulnerable will su

  ffer most.

we must live up to the calling we share. civility is not a tactic or a

sentime nt. it is the determined choice of trust over cynici**, of

***munity over chaos. and this ***mitment, if we keep it, is a way to

  shared ac***plishment.

america, at its best, is also courageous.

our national courage has been clear in times of depression and war, when

defending ***mon dangers defined our ***mon good. now we must choose if

the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us. we

must show courage in a time of blessing by confronting problems instead of

  passing them on to

  future generations.

together, we will reclaim america's schools, before ignorance and apathy

  claim more young lives.

we will reform social security and medicare, sparing our children from

struggles we have the power to prevent. and we will reduce taxes, to

recover the momentum of our economy and reward the effort and enterprise

  of working americans.

we will build our defenses beyond challenge, lest weakness invite

  challenge.

we will confront weapons of mass destruction, so that a new century is

  spared

  new horrors.

the enemies of liberty and our country should make no mistake: america

remains engaged in the world by history and by choice, shaping a balance

  of power tha

t favors freedom. we will defend our allies and our interests. we will

show purpose without arrogance. we will meet aggression and bad faith with

resolve and strength. and to all nations, we will speak for the values

  that gave our nation birth.

america, at its best, is ***passionate. in the quiet of american

conscience, we know that deep, persistent poverty is unworthy of our

  nation's promise.

and whatever our views of its cause, we can agree that children at risk

are not at fault. abandonment and abuse are not acts of god, they are

  failures of lo

ve.and the proliferation of prisons, however necessary, is no substitute for

hope and order in our souls.

where there is suffering, there is duty. americans in need are not

strangers, they are citizens, not problems, but priorities. and all of us

are diminished when any are hopeless.

government has great responsibilities for public safety and public health,

for civil rights and ***mon schools. yet ***passion is the work of a

  nation, not just a government.

and some needs and hurts are so deep they will only respond to a mentor's

touch or a pastor's prayer. church and charity, synagogue and mosque lend

  our ***munities their humanity, a

and they will have an honored place in our

  plans and in our laws.

many in our country do not know the pain of poverty, but we can listen to

  those who do.

and i can pledge our nation to a goal: when we see that wounded traveler

on the road to jericho, we will not pass to the other side.

america, at its best, is a place where personal responsibility is valued

  and expected.

encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats, it is a call to

concience. and though it requires sacrifice, it brings a deeper

fulfillment. we find the fullness of life not only in options, but in

***mitments. and we find that children and ***munity are the ***mitments

  that set us free.

our public interest depends on private character, on civic duty and family

bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which

  give direction to our freedom.

sometimes in life we are called to do great things. but as a saint of our

times has said, every day we are called to do **all things with great

love. the most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.

i will live and lead by these principles: to advance my convictions with

civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater

justice and ***passion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as

  well.

in all these ways, i will bring the values of our history to the care of

  our times.

what you do is as important as anything government does. i ask you to seek

a ***mon good beyond your ***fort; to defend needed reforms against easy

  attacks;

to serve your nation, beginning with your neighbor. i ask you to be

  citizens:

citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens,

building ***munities of service and a nation of character.

americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in

ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. when this spirit

of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. when this

  spirit is pre

sent, no wrong can stand against it.

after the declaration of independence was signed, virginia state**an john

page wrote to thomas jefferson: "we know the race is not to the swift nor

  the batt

le to the strong. do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and

  directs this storm?"

much time has passed since jefferson arrived for his inauguration. the

years and changes accumulate. but the themes of this day he would know:

our nation's grand story of courage and its ****** dream of dignity.

we are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his

  purpose.

yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in

  service to one another.

never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose

today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity

of our lives and every life.

this work continues. this story goes on. and an ange

  l still rides in the

whirl wind and directs this storm.

god bless you all, and god bless america.

  remember,i remember,

the house where i was born,

the little window where the sun

  came peeping in at morn;

he never came a wink too soon,

nor brought too long a day,

but now ,i often wish the night

  had borne my breath away.

  那小窗,太阳在清晨悄悄地往里张望;

  i remember,i remember

  the roses red and white,

  the violets, and the lily-cups,

  those flowers made of light!

the lilacs where the robin built,

  and where my brother set

  the laburnum on his birthday,—

  the tree is living yet!

  i remember,i remember

where i was used to swing,

and thought the air must rush as fresh

  to swallows on the wing;

my spirit flew in feathers then,

  that is so heavy now,

and summer pools could hardly cool

  the fever on my brow!

  和飞翔的燕子一样飘荡;

  i remember,i remember,

  the fir trees dark and high;

i used to think their slender tops

  were close against the sky:

  it was a childish ignorance,

  but now 'tis little joy

to know i'm farther off from heaven

than when i was a boy.

  那棵高大的枞树郁郁葱葱;

  它的细长的树梢,我总是想靠近天空;

two weeks ago was my 45th birthday, but i wasn'tfeeling too hot that morning anyway. i went to breakfast knowing my wife would be pleasant andsay "happy birthday" and probably have a presentfor me.

but, she didn't even say "good morning," let alone any "happy birthday."

i thought, well...that's a wife for you. i guess, the children will remember.

then, thechildren came into breakfast, but, they didn'tsay a word.

when i started to the office, i was feeling pretty low and despondent. as i walked into myoffice, my secretary ja*** said, "good morning, boss, happy birthday." and i felt a little better, someone had remembered.

i worked until noon. then, ja*** knocked on my door and said, "you know, it's such a beautifulday outside, and it's your birthday, let's goto lunch, just you and me."

i said, "that's the greatest thing i've heardall day. let's go."

  so, we

went to lunch. we didn't go where wenormally go. we went out into the country toa little private place.

we had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously.

on the way back to the office, ja*** said,"you know, it's such a beautiful day. we don't need to go back to the office, do we?"

i said, "no, i guess not."

she said, "let's go to my apartment."

after arriving at her apartment, she said,"boss, if you don't mind, i think i'll go in to the bedroom, and slip into something more ***fortable."

  "sure," i excitedly replied.

ja*** went into the bedroom and, in about sixminutes, she came out carrying a big birthdaycake, followed by my wife, children and dozensof my friends. all were singing "happy birthday".. and there i sat on the couch ...

  naked.

first, congratulations to the graduates from the cmu school of ***puter science! i’m deeply honored and grateful that you have invited me to be a part of this seminal moment in your lives. i’m honored and humbled that among many more ac***plished scs graduates, i was chosen to receive an honorary degree this year.

i received my first ph.d. in four and a half years.

this second ph.d. took 27 years.

this program must be getting a lot tougher.

i remember ***ing to cmu for the first time in 1983, when i was trying to decide what grad school to go to. i was like a kid in the candy store. cmu researchers were teaching machines to talk, listen, see and walk … i mean hop.

and i decided to attend cmu after i saw the machine of my dreams: a coke machine connected to the inter***, to ensure that we had an infinite supply of caffeine.

in 1983, this all seemed like science fiction to me. but now looking back, those technologies were just in their infancy. in 2015, 32 years later today, science fiction is about to be***e engineering reality.

and you are the chosen ones to use them to make the world a better place.

in the next 10 years, the inter*** of things will outnumber the inter*** of people by two orders of magnitude. if you think about it, you probably only own a hundred meaningful tings. so that means virtually every thinkable thing will be connected to the inter***.

will they be used as human amplification or human surveillance? that will be up to you.

in the next 10 year, our devices and the cloud will usually know what we want before we know it, and better than we know it. not just google new telling you about restaurant and transportation. but also question like “what should i say at the meeting?

”or “how should i approach this girl at the bar?“ with ***puter assistants getting **arter than us, will we be liberated or marginalized? that will be up to you.

in the next 10 years, most human jobs will be doable by machines, machines will replace factory workers, drivers, nurses, accountants, any job that has the world “assistant”or “agent”or “broker”in it. and even some doctors, lawyers, and professors sitting behind me. these machines will help us produce most of the works wealth, freeing much of our time will we be***e creative and find mankind’s destiny, or be***e mindless pets of these machines?

that will be up to you.

you are the generation that will make science fiction into engineering reality mary ***mencement speech talk about “you are the generation that matters …”but your case, it is true!

and undoubtedly, you’ve chosen the right school. there is no better school than cmu to train you to be a ***puter scientist or engineer. that’s why this school’s graduates are the highest paid graduates on the pla***.

i’ve hired for apple, google, ms-i can tell you, the cmu graduates, are not “one of the best”. you are the best.

so you might think you’re got it made! you are graduating from the best school, and entering the most exciting field, at a time when you possess the power of youth and productivity.

yes you have the power. but please remember what the world’s greater philosopher…spiderman said:”with great power ***es great responsibility.

you have a responsibility to work on the hard problems. don’t waste your time doing what machines will be able to do. don’t waste your talent repeating just what you learn at school.

don’t accept a job that doesn’t challenge you. take risks and vigorously learn, so that you can be***e the very best in something very specific and very useful.

and, now … you follow. you right here, sitting there now, baking in the sun, thinking about the celtics game tomorrow, possibly nursing a hangover – there’s one down here i’ve been following – you’re saying, wow–that’s a lot of pressure. what can i do?

where can i plant my kiss?

well, that’s your question to answer. i can’t do it for you. but, here’s what i know.

i know one thing for certain: no graduating class gets to choose the world they graduate into–just like you don’t get to choose your parents and siblings!

every class has its own unique challenges. every class enters a history that, up to that point, is being written for it.

  this is no different.

you are emblems of the sense of possibility that will define this new age.

ideal is the life of the sun, the sun does not shine, the role of life, the earth will be***e a stone. for man, without ideal is no soul.

russian writer lev tolstoy said: "ideal is the beacon. without ideal, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life.

" zhang wentian said: the ideal of life is to live an ideal life.

british psychologist and educator fleming said: "once people lose lose ideal, the pursuit of spirit, human beings have be***e ignorance, society will also be***e pitch-dark." the ideal is a kind of consciousness which is formed by belief, belief, morality, responsibility, fashion and habit.

it directly controls the direction and effect of one's practical activities.

as china's famous poet liushahe said:

  ideal is stone, knock out sparks of fire;

  ideal is fire, lit the lights out;

  the ideal is a lamp to illuminate the road ahead;

ideal is the road that leads you to the dawn.

some people in the world have abandoned the ideal,

  ideals never abandon anyone.

  ordinary people are great because they have ideals;

an ideal person is a capital man".

  理想是石,敲出星星之火;

  理想是火,点燃熄灭的灯;

  理想是灯,照亮夜行的路;

  平凡的人因有理想而伟大;

we often hear people say, "never give up." it may be to encourage others, or to express their resolve. believe in yourself, no matter how many times you fail, you will keep trying to reach your goal.

in my opinion, the determination to succeed is an important trait that everyone should have. so i think we should never give up.

one reason is that if we give up too easily, we can hardly do anything. it is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. besides, if we always give up when we fail, we can't develop new skills and grow up.

another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we work hard again. if we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. finally, we should never give up because when we work hard to achieve our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence will help us succeed in other areas of our lives.

if we don't challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities.

in short, it is important that we never give up when we try our best to achieve our goal. whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will make us a better and more confident person. furthermore, if we give up, we will have no chance to reach the goal.

but if we keep trying, one day we will have a chance to succeed.

it will be recorded that the distance of hawaii from japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. during the intervening time, the japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the united states by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

the attack yesterday on the hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to american naval and military forces. very many american lives have been lost. in addition, american ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between san francisco and honolulu.

i believe i interpret the will of the congress and of the people when i assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

hostilities exist. there is no blinking at the fact that that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

with confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us god.
