SSAT主要是测量学生的数学、英文程度及理解力。测验分为数学(Quantitative)、语文(Verbal)、阅读(Reading)、作文(Writing sample)四部分;并分为低年级(目前就读5-7年级的考生)、和高年级(目前就读8-11年级的考生)两种检测。
SSAT考试创办于1957年，由位于美国新泽西州普林斯顿市的中学入学考试委员会SSATB(Secondary School Admission Test Board)命题。SSAT在全球有600多个考场。SSAT和ISEE考试内容相似，难度相同，只是考试形式有一些区别。SSAT和ISEE考试均由英文、数学和作文组成。SSAT在美加以外地区的考试，每年于11、12、1、3、4月举行，中国地区的考试地点为上海，考前四周报名截止。在美国每年举办7次考试，在北美以外的国家和地区每年兴办5次考试。主要是测量学生的数学、英文程度及理解力，SSAT考试作文不计分，但会被送到报考学校的招生部门作为录取的参考。SSAT考试分为低年级(在读5-7年级的考生)和高年级(在读8-11年级的考生)两种考试。
