　　一 带-ing词尾的介词

　　barring：except，not including除...外

　　concerning：about，regarding论及，关于

　　excepting=except

　　pending：during/until在.....期间/直到.....为止

　　词汇是基础——词汇记忆策略

　　如何记忆单词

　　• 可以根据自身的情况制订记忆策略：

　　1.词汇记忆目标——8，000词汇左右(学完六级，再记2000-3000就够了)

　　2.每日记忆数量——60个-100个左右(复习已记词汇不算在内)

　　3.主要记忆方法——例句加词根(一般辞典后附有常见词根词缀)

　　例如，记忆emit(释放)时，可以利用例句巩固记忆：The fireplace emitted a pleasant warmth(壁炉送出一股宜人的温暖)。还可以根据词根mit/mis(送，传递)记忆一组词：

　　admit(允许进入)， commit(从事，承诺)， intermittent(断断续续的)， omit(省略)， permit(允许)， remit(邮寄，往回传递)， submit(上交)， transmit(传递)。

　　•为了使记忆效果达到最佳状态，可以参考下列建议：

　　1.利用零散时间(无需长时间记忆，只需把一天中的零碎时间加以利用即可)

　　2.分次高频重复(每天3次，1、2、4、7天均复习已记单词)

　　3.背词做题结合(做题时遇到生词可以猜测，反复出现的重要词汇应该记录并记忆)

　　4.视觉听觉共用(用听单词来减轻看单词之累，借助讲解单词的音响资料学习与巩固单词)

　　如何使用词典

　　适合托福和GRE考试的词典不少，但是以选择韦氏(Merriam Webster’s)词典为佳。其中《韦氏大学词典》(Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary)又是使用较多的，注释较详细，而且对应托福和GRE中所考的意思。该词典有电子版，使用方便。例如，buck(雄鹿;美元(俚语))在TOEFL 和GRE考试中常考它“反对”的意思，这一意思在韦氏词典中比较明显：to resist or oppose stubbornly(She bucked the system)。

　　如何使用词库(thesaurus)

　　所谓词库，就是相关词的集合，包括同义词、近义词以及在某方面相关联的词的集合。记忆一个词的时候如果能记住该词的所有相关词，不仅扩大了词汇量，而且该词本身也比较容易记住。这类词典一般按照字母顺序或分类排列，可以利用词库本身的索引查找。较常见的词库有Roget’s Thesaurus与The Merriam-Webster Thesaurus。以 important为例，The Merriam-Webster Thesaurus列出了它的常见同义词、相关词、反义词：

　　同义词：big, consequential, considerable, material, meaningful, momentous, significant, substantial, weighty
