  International Master’s Program Admission Requirements for the University of Lethbridge

  China

  Four-year Bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall B average (80%, or 4/5)

  Master of Arts

  Applicants normally must meet the following minimum requirements before the University will consider admission:

  A University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent from another recognized degree-granting institution, in the discipline of interest or in a closely cognate discipline. The University of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine whether degrees and other academic programs completed elsewhere are equivalent to University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degrees.

  A minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level semester courses.

  Academic qualifications for international applicants are available in the Graduate Studies Calendar and Course Catalogue.

  Applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis.

  Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency (ELP) requirement for graduate students.

  Master of Counselling

  A University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent from another recognized degree-granting institution, in the discipline of interest or in a closely cognate discipline. The University of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine whether degrees and other academic programs completed elsewhere are equivalent to University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degrees.

  Evidence of academic ability and promise, normally shown by a minimum GPA of 3.00 in the semesters containing the last 20 university courses (60.0 credit hours).

  Evidence of successful experience in a related area. Preference is given to applicants who have two or more years of work experience in a counselling or related setting. Volunteer experience in counselling settings is also desirable.

  Applicants must present a breadth of undergraduate courses in counselling, educational psychology, or psychology. Particular emphasis is paid to courses in human development, learning, personality, psychological disorders, and counselling and/or interpersonal skills.

  All applicants must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement for Graduate Students through recognized study or a valid standardized test (see English Language Proficiency for Graduate Students).

  Master of Education

  A University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent from another recognized degree-granting institution, in the discipline of interest or in a closely cognate discipline. The University of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine whether degrees and other academic programs completed elsewhere are equivalent to University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degrees.

The University of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine whether degrees and other academic programs completed elsewhere are equivalent to University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degrees.

  A minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level semester courses.

  Preference is given to a student whose proposed creative work is related to a supervisor's area of expertise. An applicant will be required to present an audition or a portfolio of creative work for evaluation.

  A minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level semester courses.

  Current registration as a registered nurse, registered nurse practitioner, or registered psychiatric nurse in Alberta.

  Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirement for Graduate Students.

  Master of Science

  A University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent from another recognized degree-granting institution, in the discipline of interest or in a closely cognate discipline. The University of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine whether degrees and other academic programs completed elsewhere are equivalent to University of Lethbridge baccalaureate degrees.

  A minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level semester courses.

  Applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference is given to students whose proposed research is related to the supervisor’s funded research program.

  Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency (ELP) requirement for graduate students.

  Master of Science in Management

  A 4-year baccalaureate (40 semester course) degree in Management, Commerce, Business Administration or its equivalent is required, with a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 point scale) on the last 20 graded university-level semester courses. A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent in disciplines other than Business or Management will be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants are strongly encouraged to select the major where they have the strongest foundational knowledge.A standardized graduate achievement test is normally required.

  Although the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is preferred, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) will be considered where circumstances merit the substitution. The GRE Comparsion Tool is used to predict GMAT total score.

  A minimum test score of 550 and 4.0 in the Analytical Writing section on the GMAT/GRE is required to be considered for admission.

  GMAT requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for applicants who already have a graduate degree.

  To ensure success in academic study, all applicants, regardless of citizenship or country of origin, must meet the English Language Proficiency requirement through recognized study or a valid standardized test score.

  English Language Proficiency (ELP) for Graduate Students

  English is the primary language of instruction and communication at the University of Lethbridge. Prior to registration, all applicants to the School of Graduate Studies must demonstrate English language proficiency sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments, research, and participation in tutorials and discussions, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin.

  The English Language Proficiency requirement must be met prior to registration in a graduate program (see Graduate Conditional English Proficiency Admission, below). The University reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs. In all cases, the decision of the School of Graduate Studies shall be final.

  English Language Proficiency Requirement

  English Language Proficiency may be demonstrated by any of the following:

  Successful completion of a baccalaureate or master’s degree at a recognized institution in Canada or another country where English is recognized as the primary language (see Recognized Countries, below). The student’s work must have been in English.

  Successful completion of a baccalaureate or master’s degree at a recognized institution where the language of instruction is English. Other institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The student’s work must have been in English.

  Successful completion of the Advanced Level of the University of Lethbridge English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.

  Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years, with minimum scores of:

  580 on the paper-based TOEFL and 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or

  93 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT).

  Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.5, and a minimum of 5.5 in each band.

  Academic Pearson Test of English (PTE), taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 63.

  Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 70.
