  Accommodation Service

This is a service provided by the University to help students in their search for a place to stay. The Office cannot guarantee full success at all times, but provides free one-to-one advice and information on what is available.

The Accommodation Service can assist you in several ways:

  – It runs a database with regularly updated vacancy adverts

  – It provides language assistance whenever applicants encounter difficulties in their contacts with agents or landlords

  – It provides basic information on tenancy laws and general guidelines on housing, procedures, etc.

  Insurances

  Health and accident Insurance

Every person domiciled/resident in Switzerland is required to have a health and accident insurance within three months of entry into Switzerland. Compulsory health insurance covers the costs of the medical care in case of illness or accident. Upon registration at the regional foreign office students will receive two official letters requesting to outtake a health insurance by a specific date. The compulsory health insurance benefits are the same for all insurers. Students are free to choose their own insurance company. Monthly premiums vary between CHF 200 and CHF 450 depending on age, place of residence and premium. It is recommended to compare offers before signing an insurance contract. Some insurance companies offer special packages for foreign students.

In some circumstances, one can be exempted from having a Swiss health insurance. This is particularly true for holders of the European Health Insurance Card and for non EU people insured by private companies recognized by the Swiss authorities.
