The average consumer prices in Hull are more than 40% lower than those London* and significantly lower than in comparable university cities, which makes living costs more affordable. The location of our campus residences means that daily travelling costs are low (or non-existent) at the University of Hull and that shops selling food, clothes and other everyday items are within easy walking distance.
Personal expenditure
The UKVI requires you to have £1,015 per month in your bank account, available for your accommodation, local travel, food and entertainment. This is in addition to the funds you have for your tuition fees. At the time of application, you will need to show that you have enough funds to live on for up to a maximum of nine months of your course (£1,015 x nine months) and that you have had this money for at least 28 days.
Bringing your family to the UK
The UKVI requirement is £680 per dependent for each calendar month of the student’s course and up to a maximum of nine months (or up to the length of their stay if it is shorter than nine months). Please budget for about £200 per year for each child, for school uniform and school activities. For children over the age of 11, costs may be higher.
Living in Hull
The cost of living in Hull and Scarborough is lower than in most cities and towns in Britain (indeed, approximately 30–40% less than in London) and significantly lower than in comparable university cities, which makes living costs more affordable.
