Sheffield is one of the best value cities to live and study in the UK. Living costs are 10% lower than the UK national average and 25% lower than London.
To qualify for a visa, the UK government calculates your living costs as £1015 per month for your study at Sheffield.
The information below will give you an idea of the budget you'll need for your time in Sheffield for 2016-2017:
£9,135 - Undergraduate students (nine months in Sheffield from September to June)
£12,180 - Postgraduate students (twelve months in Sheffield from September to August)
The above budget will cover costs for accommodation, food, books, equipment, insurance and local travel costs.
Students with dependents will need to budget for additional costs. You should budget for £680 per month for each dependant (spouse or child), as recommended by the UK government.
It’s important to understand the additional costs associated with studying at university and to plan your budgets accordingly. Here are some figures to help give you an idea of what you could expect to spend.
All costs given here are approximate and should only be used as a guide. Prices are averaged and based on 2015 entry.

Living costs
On top of your rent, bills and landline/internet charges there are your general day to day expenses. All students have varying costs and spend money in different ways, but such things as food and toiletries may cost you an average of £35 per week (£1,820 per year). On top of this there are your mobile phone charges, TV licence, laundry costs and general study expenses (stationery, books, etc).
As all University accommodation is within walking distance, travel expenses should not be a major factor. Any costs incurred should only apply if you decide to visit family and friends in other cities.
It would also be wise to budget for any society or gym memberships you have, as well as setting aside some money for socialising.
