Residency for tuition purposes is determined by the residence examiner in the Office of the Registrar.
(1) The "Room" figure for off-campus graduate students is based on two students sharing a two bedroom apartment. This is done because the majority of these students are older, considered independent, and typically live in this kind of housing situation.
(2) In addition to the usual miscellaneous items, all graduate students are allowed $2,277 for the cost of health insurance and a $216 allowance for renter's insurance. These allowances are not given to undergraduates because these students tend to have the costs covered by parents. The miscellaneous amount also includes $206 for Direct Loan fees.
