For fees purposes, the University classifies students as UK, EU or international. Your residency classification determines the amount you pay in tuition fees as well as the financial support available to help towards tuition fee costs and living expenses.
Tuition fees depend on your programme of study. Fee amounts are reviewed annually.
Tuition fees
Each of our postgraduate programmes has a specific cost for tuition. Wherever possible, up-to-date fees are provided with each programme entry. Fees are quoted per year and are subject to annual review so are liable to rise each year.
The tuition fee covers charges for tuition, examination, registration and a contribution towards the cost of membership of the University Union. Self-funded international students accepting a place on a taught postgraduate programme will need to pay a deposit of £1,000.
Tuition fee payments
a. how to pay
You can pay tuition fees in the following ways:
online (preferred), by direct debit or credit/debit card (in full or in instalments)
cheque (in full)
Sterling banker’s draft (in full)
bank transfer (in full)
cash (in full)
b. when to pay
Whichever payment method you use, you can pay the full amount for the upcoming year in one go. The due date for payment in full is 24 October.
Alternatively you can pay in two equal instalments, by direct debit or credit/debit card, by setting up an online payment plan. The deadline for setting up a payment plan is 14 October. The due dates for payment in two instalments are:
24 October
24 January
Application fee
We do not currently charge an application fee for our programmes.
We know that applicants from some countries had problems in paying the application fee for Masters programmes in the School of Economics, Finance and Management last year. We have therefore suspended the application fee for 2014 entry.
Bench fees
Some programmes charge a bench fee in addition to tuition fees. Bench fees are charged on the basis of whether a programme (or specific project) will incur specific extra costs – usually associated with specialist laboratory or field work.
If a programme has bench fee as standard, this will be stated in the online programme finder. And if you are made an offer of admission to a programme and a bench fee is applicable, this will be stated on your offer letter.
Additional fees
Some postgraduate research programmes charge a fee related to submission of the final thesis and/or extension of the usual period of registration. Further information is available on our Additional Fees.
