Undergraduate
The Chinese Senior High School Diploma is not acceptable as an entry qualification for LSE. Whilst not an exhaustive list, the following are international qualifications with which applicants may be eligible for consideration by LSE:
• 3 A-levels
• The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
• At least 4 ‘Group A' Advanced Placement subjects (see the College Board and UCAS websites)
• A University of London International Programmes qualification
• A foundation programme (See EducationUK for more detail)
• A year of university study from another institution*
*Applicants to whom we make an offer on the basis of an undergraduate degree are normally expected to obtain a B+ or the equivalent overall, but higher marks in specific subjects may also be necessary. Applicants offered a place on the basis of a foundation programme or university studies may be asked to sit the Undergraduate Admissions Assessment (UGAA).
The UGAA is one three-hour paper of a general nature, requiring no special preparation, that is held in March of each year. It consists of essays on general discussion topics, a summary of an English language text and tests of mathematical understanding. The UGAA may be sat abroad in any approved examination centre. You will be contacted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office if you are required to sit the UGAA.
Please note that, due to the intense competition for places, meeting or exceeding the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission. In addition to the general entry requirements, applicants should also refer to the individual undergraduate degree programme descriptions in the Undergraduate Prospectus, especially for quantitative programmes, where the advanced study of Mathematics up to school-leaving age is often required. All undergraduate applications to LSE must be made through UCAS (the central admissions service for UK universities). Information about how to apply can be found on our website and on the UCAS website. The closing date for applications is 15 January in the year that you hope to start at LSE.
