Scholarship Loans
Students whose financial circumstances would otherwise make it difficult to continue attending university can submit an application under the scholarship loan system. At this university, approximately 40% of students currently receive a scholarship loan. There are three types of scholarship: those provided by the Japan Student Services Organization, those provided by local government, and those provided by private sector foundations. The Japan Student Services Organization provides two types of scholarship loan: Category 1 loans (interest-free) and Category 2 loans (with interest); in the case of the Category 2 loans, interest begins to accrue on the amount loaned once the borrower graduates or leaves university (upper limit on interest is 3% annually; applicants can choose from a fixed or floating interest rate).
