Ladies and gentlemen,
It’s my honor to give a speech here. My topic of speech is ”Smile for life, and every day will be sunshine” It conveys the message that positive attitude really counts in our life. Once we adopt a positive attitude towards life, we may overcome whatever difficulty there is in our way, realize our dreams and gain success.
Here I share one experience with you. With the College Entrance Examination drawing near, I was filled with great anxiety. Under great pressure, I couldn’t applying myself to study, resulting in failing in the examination. I got very frustrated. Just then ,my head teacher, Miss Zhang, approached me and said “In life we all have moments when we can’t achieve what we want. It is natural. Don’t allow those moments to weaken you, but turn them into motivation to inspire you.” Her words were a reminder which provided me with constant encouragement to smile for life. Consequently, I gained what I deserved .
So from the story, it is an optimistic attitude that matters most of all. It gives you the confidence to confront tough difficulties and to achieve what you want in your life.
Thanks for your attention!

(text 1)
M: Rose, there is a really good view over there.
W: Sorry, we can’t stop here. There is nowhere to park.
(text 2)
W: Has your sister bought her books yet?
M: She bought a medical book. The Chinese and English textbooks were sold out.
(text 3)
W: Hello, John. How are you feeling now? Somebody said you’ve been sick.
M: They must have had me confused with my brother. He has been sick all week. But I’ve never felt better in my life.
(text 4)
W: You don’t mind if we don’t watch the soccer game tonight, do you?
M: You must be joking. My brother is one of the star players.
(text 5)
M: If you excuse me, I really should be off now.
W: Not yet surely. Have another drink at least.
M: No, thank you all the same. And thank you very much for the delicious meal.
W: Thank you for coming.
(text 6)
W: Hi, Jack. Are you doing anything on Friday night?
M: Hmm. Friday night?
W: Yes, the day after tomorrow.
M: Let me think. Well, I have an appointment with Professor Smith in the morning. And, I will attend a lecture in the afternoon. And …oh, yes! My brother just called to say he would fly here that night. I told him I would pick him up.
W: Oh, that’s too bad!
M: What’s the matter?
W: Well, it’s my birthday. I’m having dinner with Joyce, and I thought I’d invite more friends and make it a party.
M: See, I’m really sorry, but I won’t be able to make it.
W: I’m sorry, too. But that’s OK.
(text 7)
W: And don’t forget to read Chapter Five and answer the questions on Page 99! Oh, Jonathan, just a minute — I want to speak to you.
M: Yes, Mrs Fenway?
W: Johathan, why didn’t you answer any questions on the homework?
M: Oh, I’m sorry Mrs Fenway, but I read the wrong chapter last night.
W: Oh, I see. But why didn’t you read the right chapter after you looked at the questions?
M: Well, I had to do too much other homework last night.
W: And why were you late this morning.
M: Oh, I had to walk to school because the bus got a flat tire.
W: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, Jonathan. Well, hurry to your next class or you’ll be late.
M: I will, Mrs Fenway. See you tomorrow.
(text 8)
W: How important are friends to you, Bill?
M: That’s kind of strange question for this setting, don’t you think so?
W: Well, the teacher hasn’t come in yet, class hasn’t begun, and I was just wondering about it. So, what do you think about friends?
M: I’ve never regarded them as particularly important. Perhaps that’s because I come from a big family— two brothers and three sisters, and lots of cousins. That’s what’s really important to me. What about you?
W: My situation, you know, is different, so I have different ideas. To me friendship is the most important thing in life. It’s more important even than love. If you love someone, you can always fall out of love again, and that can lead to a lot of hurt feelings and bitterness. But a good friend is a friend for life.
(text 9)
M: Let’s discuss your education background. You were an English major, weren’t you?
W: Yes. That’s right. But I liked French best.
M: Fine. And could you tell me what kind of work experience you’ve had?
W: My last position was with Loomis and Martin. That was from 2005 to 2009. That’s a law firm in Sacramento. Before that I worked for Biship and Baldwin. That was from 2003 to 2005.
M: Could you tell me what kind of salary you are expecting?
W: Well, in my last job I was making $1,500 a month. I understand that this position has a starting salary of around $1,600 a month.
M: That’s right.
W: That would be fine with me. What I care about most is if the company provides opportunities for further education.
M: Yes, our employees are allowed to take up to six hours a week at full pay, to attend college courses.
(text 10)
W: Paul and I met when we were both at university. In fact, we hated each other at first. He was my best friend Sophie’s boyfriend. We were all in the same class at school. His relationship with my friends didn’t last long but I didn’t start to like him until we ended up working in the same restaurant. He’d become a chef by then and I’d been called in to redesign the place to give it more atmosphere. The owner of the restaurant was so pleased with my work that I had free meals there whenever I wanted them. Needless to say, I became a regular though I’d have happily paid for the meals anyway. Paul’s cooking is amazing and I’d realized that I’d changed my mind about him too.
